Government Degree College is affiliated to University of Jammu, Jammu and was established in August 2011by Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir. Initially the college was started functioning from Govt. Higher Secondary School Khour with merely 98 students in Arts Stream only. Now, it is located at the left bank of Partap Canal at Nai Basti Narayana which is away from the hustle and bustle of city and provides congenial environment for studies. The college is recognized under 2(f) with the UGC Act 1956 in 2011. The college, since its inception has been governed by educationists of great eminence who have contributed immensely in lying a strong foundation and growth. From the current academic session i.e. 2021-22, Science Stream (Medical & Non-Medical) and subject – Computer Applications have been introduced which was the burning demand of the local public and students. There is a steep increase in the enrollment of students since its establishment. At present it is catering the need of 760 students with 55% female students, 15 permanent faculty , 05 academic arrangement teachers and five non-teaching staff members. The college imparts skill based and job oriented courses besides formal education at UG Level. In 2019, the college imparted Add-on Certificate Course Accounts Executive to 30 students under Rashtriya Uchattar Shikhsa Abhiyan(RUSA). At present it is imparting two Add-on Skill Courses viz. Data Entry & Office Automation to 30 students in collaboration with NILIET and Yoga & Naturopathy to 30 students in collaboration with Central University of Jammu. The purpose to introduce such courses is to take higher education on the path of more job and market oriented track for increasing the employment opportunities. As a part of future initiative and up gradation of existing infrastructure, the college has submitted the proposal for Examination Hall, Girls Hostel, up gradation of Library/Laboratories and College Auditorium to higher authorities. College has established a Browsing Centre with a view to facilitate, foster and support the essential teaching-learning process. We hope that the college will make a remarkable progress not only in academics but also in extra and Co-curricular activities with the constructive and healthy support of all the stakeholders.
